In some ways, during the Euros, Juan went through what I had gone trhough the whole season. He was undoubtedly Chelsea’s best player that year, and he had the feeling that he could play the same kind of role in the National Team, but came face to face with a very different situation. We both thought, in different scenarios, that we would be important for our teams, and we weren’t. I simply gave him what he deserved. I wanted to thank him for how much he’d taken care of me when I needed it the most, and most of all, I wanted him to know which was his true place.
